Do I Need a Car in Austin?

It depends on where you are. In central Austin — Downtown, South Congress, East Austin — transit, MetroBike and ride-hail cover almost everything, and parking downtown is metered and expensive. For outer neighborhoods and hill country day trips, a car or a mix of transit and ride-hail is the practical choice.
